Mile 0.0–0.3
Opening dome and sand hill
The trail immediately climbs a slickrock dome to a steep sandy hill, with an easier marked alternate on the left.
Before you continue
Use the marked left alternate if the straight sandy climb demands more momentum or clearance than the group can control.
What catches people
The transition from high-traction rock to loose sand breaks momentum.
Conditions change it
Deep dry sand and queued vehicles make the straight climb harder.
Fit
Good articulation, clearance, approach angles, and low range; Grand County does not recommend this first section for ATVs.
